My name is Rachael Torossian and I had the privilege of student teaching the second grade at Walters Elementary in Marshall, MI under the supervision of Michelle Rupp.

The faculty at Walters, and of course my mentor teacher, provided me with the greatest support system and allowed me to be myself in the classroom.  I had 23 wonderful, and very active, students in my class and the freedom from Michelle gave me the opportunity to develop some incredible relationships with them.

I was given the opportunity to be extremely creative within my weeks of student teaching, having to create an entire unit on communities basically from scratch.  My mentor teacher, and the other second grade teachers, put a lot of trust in me to get something outstanding and creative on paper.  This gave me the confidence to put myself into my work, and also highlight the strengths of the 23 students in my class.

Student teaching has definitly prepared me for a class of my own, and instead of being slightly intimidated by that thought, i am now extremely excited to have my own classroom one day!
